People aren't exactly lining up to buy houses and live in Granite City. And part of the reason for that is that we have a reputation of being a drug infested community. You clean that up by using all means necessary. These landlords and renters, to my understanding, are made aware of that and in fact, I think their leases may contain such information. If I live in a nice home, why should I have to worry that the guy in the house behind me allows drug buyers to live in his basement? "Good for bringing the lawsuit"? It's an ambulance chasing firm looking to make a name for themselves. It will cost the city money just to fight it. And again, if federal housing projects can enact such laws, they're going to have a hard time telling the city they can't. Think of it this way. If you are pulled over in your car and have someone with you that dumps drugs in the car when the cop lights you up, you are responsible for the drugs in the car unless your passenger confesses. Your car can be taken and you can face charges of being in possession of drugs. We have to fight crimes a different way now. I hope the city prevails on this. I can understand sympathy for the family but they should have know better. They will next time.
