I have seen the numbers and yes we are upside down. But at one time I was a renter just starting out working towards one day being a home owner. I’m hoping that some of those renters are working towards that too. But look around, these neighborhoods are looking like slums never did I think I would use the word ghetto to describe parts of this city and some of those areas are owner occupied. When you can drive down almost any street and see many homes that haven’t seen a coat of paint in years. There’s a problem. Who wants to move to a blighted area. You get what you attract! If you want a better community and better neighborhoods start being a better neighbor. Sure there’s ordinances on the books and yes they need to be enforced but isn’t it shame that you have to fine people to live in a civilized way! Even though they are cited some work harder at getting out of the fine than just doing what needs to be done and should be done. This speaks volumes at who we are attracting
There has to be incentives for young people to move here to buy a home that’s in need of some TLC instead of landlords, most don’t live here, buying these properties at rock bottom prices with putting very little money in it just to be able to rent it cheaply!
And there has to be hefty fines for those who are bringing this city down before all of our eyes whether it’s home owners or business owners
Community pride can go a long way.
I’m still betting there are enough people left in this town to demand change. But they can’t be the silent minority any longer.
