When my daughter, Lindsey, was killed by a drunk driver here in Pontoon Beach, the State Police, as a courtesy to the family, asked us to hold a "memorial" DUI checkpoint here in our community.
My daughter was killed on Charlie's watch. I will never forgive or forget him and others for what was a completely preventable tragedy for our family, had people just done their jobs correctly. He and then mayor Jim Denham dictated alcohol policies for the Village. When I was elected trustee, there, I found that the official protocol seemed to be live and let live, until somebody died....."We can't just park our cars outside of the taverns and wait for the people to come out"...
BUT---During our Saturday night DUI checkpoint that was held in his own village, our Chief of Police, wonderful Charlie, refused to even stop by and/or offer any support to either the several State officers or to the family members that were there.
