You bet the public has the right to know. I don't think anyone will be forgetting these checks any time soon. It makes me wonder, and I'm sure others too, how many more are out there.
It has been rumored that Walmart Corporation loves to see the shoppers from the township walking through the doors, grabbing a shopping cart.
There should be nothing, not a single check being written on this account other than what the account is intended for. No office supplies or office expenses, no lunches, no catering, no parties, not a single penny should have went for anything other than the recipient of an approved applicant for assistance.
It should be easy enough to audit and track every dime used out of this account. It should be very easy to contact every applicant approved. I have lost all confidence in every single sitting trustee to have allowed this funny business to continue for so long.
The township trustees are just as responsible for this General Assistance Fund as Laura M. is. They were elected by the voters who trusted them to audit and watch over this account.
This huge cloud of doubt and suspicions concerning this General Assistance Fund is a big black mark against the entire township and every employee there. There was apparent questionable activities that sparked an investigation of the Pontoon Beach Water District, and that was not allowed to continue without investigation and a line by line audit. How is the township any different? What makes the board of trustees turn a blind eye to these suspicions and rumors for all this time? The sad part of this election is, we have no choice in reelecting some of these same people.
Fool us once, shame on you... Fool us twice, shame on us!
