I guess there will never be a perfect solution and I hope this thing works out. We haven't had neighborhood schools since my children were in school. Neighborhood schools are typically ones where the majority of the children can walk to school. These days, because of the dwindling number of buildings and the budget, many children are bussed and unfortunately it appears as those busses are picking up too large an area to keep the run times short. Add to that so many parents who feel the need to drop their children off at the door and pick them up, something they can't be blamed for in this day and age. I would argue that Greenwald and his team gave this much thought and knew that there would be stumbling blocks. Friends of mine who teach, not only in GC but in other districts, tell me that these attendance centers are very educationally sound and beneficial. I appreciate your comment about making calls respectfully. Well thought out posts and calls such as yours are usually met with more positive view. I wish we could rewind the clock in this district and town. Oh to see a vibrant steel mill and business sector again. How great would it be if there were still twenty schools where kids within a ten block area could walk to school like we all did without fear of a predator. Those days are gone forever and I fear the slow death of our community is coming. I hope those smarter than me (large group of folks) figure something out soon. Good luck to Mr. Greenwald and the school board as they try to figure this thing out.
