I visit NextStl every day. Alex Ihnen is the soul owner of that website and posts whatever articles appear there, many times along with his thoughts. There is no "staff of writers", (or did I misunderstand you?). Then there are people that post their opinions. They don't all agree, either. I've even questioned Mr. Ihnen on a couple things. Doesn't mean I'm right and he's wrong. Expressing thoughts and having those thoughts addressed is how we gain knowledge. And, I do have a problem with narrowing down major arteries. A proper city should have proper and fitting access for those who don't live there as well as for those who do. I didn't say "what Collinsville is doing is backwards". I said what this particular project is doing sounds backwards. I based that on what was written here. My whole post was based on that. My apologies to anyone who misunderstood what I was trying convey if I didn't make it clear. I drive through the U City Loop nearly weekly. It's a people place with restaurants, entertainment, bars, businesses and even markets (remember Gaslight Square? I do). IOW, Delmar runs through an urban neighborhood and is not merely a drive through to get from one place to another. The streetcar is being installed to serve those who live there and those who come to socialize and partake of the various venues..which would include tourists (and most likely in importance in that order). If the streetcar is inconvenient for some, there's optional routes one can take if the U City Loop or immediate proximity isn't their destination. Delmar Blvd. in the U City Loop has been voted one of the top 10 urban streets in the country. That's because it answers to a lifestyle of that particular type. Not everyone wants to live that lifestyle. I myself am one. I'd really prefer a small community way out in the country (lol...as long as I have access to the internet), but at this point of my life it just isn't practical. Yet, I understand this "new urban movement", and yes, when I was younger I did want to be part of it. But I'm older now and have different wants and needs. We all have different wants and needs...and even though every one can't be pleased, it's what the trends are that a successful city and it's suburbs and small towns and farming communities should work to respond to.
