I agree Bob, that post took me back to my swimming cap days at the park pool! It did use to be an all day event for the family back then. I can remember getting invited to Paddlers now and then by a friend or two, but I always wanted to go to the park pool instead because you knew that is where all your friends would be. Even the kids that belonged to Paddlers would end up begging their parents to go to the park pool instead because of the crowd of people or friends they knew would be there. I can remember to this day what it felt like after climbing out of that pool after swimming for hours, that belly touching your backbone hunger and taking your place in line to order your hot dog. That hot dog and soda tasted like Thanksgiving dinner after all the exercise and at that point, your day at the pool was only HALF over! The coolest of the cool kids would gather in small groups and hang out and listen to the music and talk and take the occasional dip to cool off, but they were far to cool to swim non stop like the younger kids. That would give the girls a change to pry off their skin tight swim caps and transform back into a girl instead of some kind of Cone head look alike off of Saturday Night Live. Oh how I hated having to wear those, all of the girls did, but it was a small price to pay to get to spend the day at the pool. On the weekends you would see entire families spend the day there. Not just mom and the kids, or the kids being dropped off, it would be the mom, dad and all the kids, toddlers and all. And, there was a break time, I clearly remember that! I can also remember some people walking back to their cars during this break time and carrying back a cooler and grabbing a picnic table and spreading out a table cloth and setting up their packed lunch. Yes, a real homemade packed picnic lunch for the entire family. Those were the days! It's sad to hear what has became of the pool now. It is such a beautiful park and a nice pool I don't understand these issues with the hours of operation and the people of the city not being able to get full use of it. The season is so short, summer flies by in a blink of an eye, what is the real problem here? I am not convinced that they can not find full time employees that will work the hours needed to keep this pool open, I just don't believe that. I have never heard of any facility like this one that runs part time hours of operation during it's peak season. That just doesn't make any sense.
