FWIW I've heard that American English isn't easy to learn at all due to the amount of slang we speak. Not that people who live here shouldn't at least try to learn the language. A friend of mine moved to southern France with her husband (he is from there) to raise their son in the same town her husband grew up in and the French government paid for her to learn the language. She took a class at the local college for the past two years. I'm sure there is something like that in this country, right? I've seen SWIC offer English as a second language courses...
