I have to admit, I was WRONG. I do think a low turnout coupled with the mill news had the biggest impact. It was indeed a close election.
I think Keeping makes a most interesting point. Mrs. Scroggins and Yates won. My guess is if Mr. Dillard had run he would have too. So the point is interesting. Was the no vote against the board?
A teacher mentioned to me today that is the board lost it would be due to the mill news. I didn't really think about it until she said this. The mill stood to take on a major new tax increase. Was the announced layoff a game to influence the vote to save them money? Will the layoff now be rescinded That will surely be an indication.
I do believe the board will now take notice and make some serious cuts. I hope they have not been forced to enact the drastic cuts we all heard about. If they do look forward to a loss of student population and a decline in our property values. That's a no brainer. How bad will it get? Time will tell
Congratulations to the no voters. You did indeed send a message. Congratulations to the yes voters for trying. Mostly congratulations to Mr. Greenwald and the Board for letting the people speak on this.
