Got it, thank you. Here is my thinking; State standards should remain high, its a highly competitive "world" - the state should map and monitor proficiency of its public education providers. Reading, writing, and arithmetic should be mastered prior to entering the last 4 years of mandated education. High school should be geared toward a student's 'individual' potential and interest with some guidance. High school teachers should be fully aware of each individual assigned students abilities and weaknesses before the school year begins. Teachers should not be harnessed to a bureaucratic assembly, be it state or local, they should be allowed to create and implement their own curriculum for the school year. Teacher's have sense enough to know what works and what doesn't, I would hope. They certainly do not need some administrative staff breathing down their backs and applying pressure - administration should be around to ensure the teacher's have the tools and resources they need, nothing else, nothing more.
