    I agree that texting while driving is stupid, but I was trying to make the point that many laws that are passed are done because existing laws don't seem to be enforced and someone can go back to their constituents and tout they did something that really did little to better society. A texting law makes good headlines and nobody is going to not vote for you because of your position, as opposed to a difficult budget or regulation position that is going to help some and possible hurt some, but might balance a budget at the expense of someone's gravy train.

    Many people are pulled over and get DUI's while driving and the probable cause to pull them over is weaving between the lines. Wouldn't crossing the lines and weaving or "illegal lane usage" be just as valid a driving violation as texting.

    If any police officers are reading this, I would really like to hear your opinion on this. Do anti-texting laws aide you in protecting the public or is it redundent?

    I could be wrong.
