I actually hate drawing attention to myself in real life. I was raised that way.
I do not want any replies with adulation nor happy anniversaries. And this is not reverse psychology in hopes you'll do it.
The only reason I even say anything is so that I can say THANK YOU TO GRANITE CITY GOSSIP.
GCG has been to me...
- Better than watching what is on TV -Good conversation - A community in which I have shared ideas, thoughts, and in general, lively conversation. For some it has been a virtual community, as in my case. For others it has been a literal community where there has been gatherings and get-togethers.
For something like this to work, people have to come and support it. People have to be mutually interested in the exchange of ideas.
I think what really motivates this place is a love for Granite City (Genos of the world nonwithstanding).
The immediate statement that is made on the front page at the very second one accesses 'Granitecitygossip.com' is love for Granite City, and community pride.
Granite City is portrayed in its best light on the front page. The discussion board is a portal in which residents and others from the outside who still love Granite City talk about what is happening and how they see Granite City and the outside world from their perspective.
These are some of the reasons why I love this place.
Sorry if this post drew attention to me. But as I looked at the bottom of my page at the tag, I saw that December 1 date.
Once in a while -- I ask myself - 'why am I here?"
What really appeals to me to keep coming back?
Why is this a routine site that I visit versus visiting others?
And when I answer those questions sincerely - that's what I find. I have a need to express ideas and dialogue about them. I have a need to be 'opinionated' (with a small o) in a place that is safe to be so.
I assume it is a safe place as long as I behave myself and not assassinate peoples' real-time character.
So that's why I am here. I know my need to have intelligent and opinionated conversation has likely been off-putting for those whose interest is in other things.
I just encourage those people to keep posting. I'm a curious and perceptive person and most anything causes at least some reaction. Since I'm an introvert, the keyboard has helped me express all those reactions. To make a long story short, just because we talk lots of politics or just because the same people argue - does not mean that what you have to say is not of interest.
I love new topics. Some I can get into and reply to and others I cannot.
So anyway..thanks GCG. Please don't reply with any acknowledgement of this DEC 1 date.
Some of the other things I talked about may or may not be interesting...especially the 'Why are we here' question.
This is about everybody, not me. But after a year, I do thank you all for being the community that you are by just being who you are.
And I hope that I do not do something like this every December 1. This should be it.
