    +1000 Opie!

I had my "moment" a few years back in a hotel in Nashville. Some friends and I were there for a Titans-Cowboys game and just happened to be staying at the same hotel as the National VFW convention. Two of us were veterans, and thanked each veteran we came across for their service.

We stepped onto the elevator and the door was getting ready to close and saw an elderly man with a walker approaching. We held the elevator for him, and when he got on we noticed a gold DSC emblem on his Army WWII Veteran hat. We were in awe of this gentleman and could only imagine what he had done to earn the Distinguished Service Cross.(For those that may not know, the DSC is the second highest military honor, for meritorious service at the risk of his life and above and beyond the call of duty, afforded to a member of the US Army. The highest is the Medal of Honor.) We thanked him for his service and shook his hand, and sent him on his way. Things were pretty silent on the elevator ride to our floor, and when we got off my fellow veteran buddy and I both had tears in our eyes. We had just been in the company of a true American hero. We had the pleasure to meet a few former and present Cowboys that weekend, but none of them compared to that old man in the elevator.

Thanks for bringing back that memory Opie as I sit here with tears in my eyes hoping, the same as you, that the hero we met is still alive and as well as he can be.
