noun
one that conforms to rules or the law
illegal
2 of 2
noun: a person who enters or lives in a country without the documentation required for legal entry or residence
In this state, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to drink alcohol.
The definitions from Webster makes these two words very clear.
Today, I asked my very liberal golf partner if he agreed. True to form, he said it depends on the severity.
So, I posed this question to him. In our beloved state, it is illegal to drive without insurance. I asked him this hypothetical but everyday occurring question. Let’s say you are driving down the road and someone plows through a stop sign and totals your car. Of course, that person has no insurance. You therefore are on the hook to have your insurance, you know the one you pay for, to cover your loss. Your deductible is $1,000.00 and your new vehicle is worth 35% less than when you drove it off the lot six months ago. So, you’re out quite a bit of money that YOU worked for.
Now, said person who performed an illegal act and broke a law at best gets fined at most $1,000 and NO jail time. That’s the law in Illinois.
Now, let’s say said offender not only totals your car but hurts two of your kids riding with you. He flees but is caught. He’s charged with leaving the scene which in Illinois is punishable by a $2,500 fine and a possible one-year jail sentence. But your kids have broken arms, cuts and bruises and will miss the soccer season because of injuries. No change in punishment for the “illegal action”, but your kids suffer, and you are hit with massive medical bills.
And that children is why we have laws to protect the innocent, NOT the illegals and the only problem is the punishment doesn’t fit the crime.
My liberal buddy says it’s different. I told him because one impacts him up close and personal and he doesn’t realize the other impacts him through acts of congress.
