The only thing that's clear is he had a disdain for the insurance industry that was expressed in a criminal way. What seems very likely is he is a highly intelligent individual who had some type of mental break.
I don't understand the folk hero status he has among some folks. He is a cold blooded murderer who targeted this man because he was the CEO of an insurance company.
As far as the gun, it was a ghost gun (which is a huge problem), this was not a mass shooting done with an AR15. Trying to throw the "gun grabber" fear mongering into this situation is stupid.
