We have to do better than this! I'm not buying this is a "shortage-delivery" issue. If our high school sat in the middle of a grocery store desert, then possibly.
But, it sits directly across the street from Schnucks grocery store, with Save A Lot grocery store about one minute away, and a Rulers grocery store about 3 minutes away. Don't forget Aldies about 5 to 10 minutes away.
There is NO excuse what so ever to not have in stock lettuce to make salads, when you have all these grocery stores fully stocked.
If they can serve mystery meat luncheon meats like this nasty chopped and pressed processed sodium packed junk, they are calling ham, they can just as easily serve an all beef hot dog on a bun. Or, at the very least a toasted cheese sandwich.
Why has the school board sat mute all this time and allowed this to continue on this long? I've read ONE response from ONE board member, McMasters after someone tagged him on Facebook about this issue, his response was they were looking to start full time hot lunches soon.
What is the reason behind this new 7th hour lunch/study period? The students that have lunch during 7th hour are snapping pictures of the garbage that they are stuck with as an option because everything else is sold out. They're saying all the hot lunches are sold out by the time they get to go to lunch and they are being offered frozen PB&J sandwiches as an option.
I would love to see Ms Cann, or any of the staff eat the garbage in this picture. Or better yet, eat this with a side of baby carrots and hummus that is being served multiple times a week to the students!
I would like to see who ever is in charge of this lunch program try to explain why he/she ordered an apparent truck load of baby carrots and hummus in the first place.
Just because Illinois schools are supplying students with free lunches through grants, does not mean they can serve them this pathetic garbage. Compare what other districts are serving their students, to our districts menu. It's embarrassing and there's just no excuse for it.
Edwardsville school menu is serving Juicey Chicken Sandwich, Sloppy Joes, Chicken Nuggets, Pizza, Cheeseburgers and not an ounce of hummus or baby carrots on the menu!
Take a look at this exchange between a local teacher and some parents on this issue.
I have to wonder if the person in charge of the lunch program has the same attitude as this teacher, where they think the parents just need to stop "bitching".
