It's just that the presidential level is not a comparison to local officials. For local positions, it is entirely possible to make change at the grassroots level. It doesn't require a billion dollars in campaign funds and the support of national parties. Anyone can walk into city hall and fill out a petition.
So if the last two were terrible...the question remains....... who would have been better? Why didn't they step forward?
You won't like the following line of reasoning, but I have actually been gentle on Presidents, when we have had them in office.
I haven't attacked a president in many years. Since January, I have not attacked the president. From 2017-2021, we didn't have a president, so there was no president to attack.
From 2009-2017, I didn't attack the president very often....so I apologize if I was a little critical in the years of the junior Bush administration. As a retired president, George W. Bush is actually a pretty decent guy.
When you ban books before you ban guns, you've admitted that you're more afraid of children learning than you are of children dying.
