At times it's tempting to lose faith in humanity.
People aren't stupid per se, even though at times their choices could perhaps betray the fact.
I know it's disappointing to thing that people could have such blind fealty to someone, that they would carve an idol and start worshipping him about God....and follow his precepts above God's. Maybe it's pride, who knows what it is. That's why I"m asking the question.
But no, it's not that people are stupid.
That dismissal does not help gain understanding into the issue at hand - to understand how people worship a man who openly, plain as day does not care about his worshippers, only how they can be a means to his ends --- the satisfaction of an insatiable ego.
And truthfully, I think it's interesting that people claiming Christianity go head over heels over someone who embodies and opposite ethos, and would then be content with a golden idol of himself.
To me this blind faith constitutes a type of hero 'worship', especially when it's plain as day that there aren't even any evident qualities that qualify him for such admiration.
People are not stupid, but people have blind spots. As uniquely as people are made, is as unique their blind spots may be. I have plenty of my own blind spots.
No need to look down on people. However, it is totally appropriate to not understand why people make the choices they make. It's totally appropriate to question why people put such blind faith into someone who is so demonstrably unqualified, uncaring, unhinged and unable to lead.
Dismissiveness is what empowered this in this first place. I think the separation of 'two Americas' empowered it in the second place.
But no, it's not because they're stupid.
I know you want to think so Bob, but please give people a break. I know people make bad choices, and even at times stupid choices, Bob....but please don't dismiss them as stupid.
When you ban books before you ban guns, you've admitted that you're more afraid of children learning than you are of children dying.
