There are even places where conservatives are taking the initiative, such as experiments with housing the homeless in Utah.
Utah is arch-conservative, but they made their biggest swings left in the elections of 2016 and 2020. There is still a humanitarian side to them.
It's amazing what it costs society when someone has to go to the ER and not a Doctor's office.
Furthermore, the cost on society for prisons and their system of retributive justice.
You even use the words leeches to show your unending contempt for those at the bottom. Politicians (mostly GOP but some Dems too) take this same attitude.
This attitude is what is taking more of your tax dollars than anything.
Deferred maintenance on anything will always cost more in the long run...whether its infrastructure or whether it's the needs of people. Neglect basic and inexpensive needs today, and it will cost more tomorrow.
But with the attitude that all on the bottom are leeches.....nothing will change and you'll continually be paying more and more while resenting it.....because you reject any efforts all along to do anything about it.
Consider yourself lucky I guess that your exposure has been limited. Maybe it's just the people who act rude at Wal Mart and McDonalds have painted the picture for you....but I guarantee there are many more quiet people who let their bills mount up because they're afraid to ask for help.
I could introduce you to people who are the farthest thing from leeches and who even contribute so much to society....but just can't make it alone on low wage salaries.
Some of the stories would break your heart.
But I guess they too get put in that category of leeches.
When you ban books before you ban guns, you've admitted that you're more afraid of children learning than you are of children dying.
