All these eighth graders and high schoolers are concentrated in one area of town... and the back forty of their properties are situated along Fehling road.....that everyone pronounces as FAILING. I mean the Warrior football field is situated along this street as well... Students and athletes had to travel the road of Fehling before even having a chance to succeed. a
Now with due respect to those decent German farmers from the late 1800's -- we have to quietly put their memory to rest....and call that stretch of street connecting Benton Street to Nameoki Road --- EXCELLENCE Avenue.... or even WINNING WAY.... There's already a VICTORY street.., Maybe put a memorial to the Fehling Family in the Hall of Fame or something.
No one knows who the Fehlings are, and we all pronounce it "FAILING ROAD" anyway....
I don't know how many Fehling Family members would be offended by that...but maybe put a plaque or something somewhere in tribute to the Fehlings... and then go about renaming that street!
I mean there are enough problems --- that the property is bordered on the East by Nameoki...which means smoky....(and that has over the years created enough problems amongst student bodies...) but that's a much larger thoroughfare and I think important to our history. However, most of FAILING Road really does border the School District property to the North and West, and the rest of FAILING road to the south of the school borders the Park.
Although, there is one redeeming quality about Fehling Road... It's possible that the advanced Chemistry students may learn of Fehling's Solution... The great Wikipedia that never lies explains it here.
But getting back to my story.... People search does not net any results of anyone having that name in Granite City.
SO with all due respect to the good people for whom the road is named, its anglicized form has caused performance issues.... Let's get a new name...and things will change instantly.
(Not everyone can think in nuanced terms, so for those who cannot... this post is SATIRE...)
