The area which covers around four square blocks in Seattle’s downtown has been designated as an area where people can peacefully protest but those present have taken things to a whole new level.
Food and drinks are provided for free from the ‘No Cop Co-Op’ while protesters have also put on a concert and had an open-air film screening.
Meanwhile, however, there have also been reports of crime and vandalism in the area.
Barricades have also been erected around the perimeter and images have emerged of some of Chaz’s occupants carrying firearms with some even taking to manning border points and acting as armed guards.
Understandably, opinion in the US is hugely split on what has been an unfathomable development.
The Mayor of Seattle, Jenny Durkan told CNN that the atmosphere inside the Autonomous Zone is “like a block party” and that there is “no threat right now to the public.”
