I'll never say that mistakes don't happen or that every single cop out there is a good one. In the King case, he was mistaken for a fugitive. I don't know why the officers simply didn't ask him for his identification. He made a mistake when he ran.
However, the lower courts found and it's based on a Supreme Court decision in the 80's is that police have something called, "qualified immunity". The courts realize that there will sometimes be cases such as the King case.
More than likely the SC won't side with King. Would I say he deserves some sort of cash settlement for what he went through? Possibly. But I haven't sat on a jury and heard both sides of the story.
I will follow this case though because I find it interesting.
they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....
