Within your reference to "driverless trucks" lies the answer as I see it. Driverless trucks are akin to automated robot warehouses that, in the long run, will not add much to the area economy while at the same time make increasing demands upon the private sector.
To be sure there will be positive actions and reactions in the short run that I will agree with but, to me, it is just another boondoggle that amounts to another can being kicked down the road to provide temporary immediate benefits at the expense of long term economic growth.
Hopefully, for the benefit of those of us that reside in this area, I am wrong; just my humble opinion that I am sure many disagree with. That's what freedom represents though; we are all entitled to our own opinions.
