In the old days Mitchell and Pontoon Beach would have flooded above ground without question. We started the day with Horseshoe Lake at 403.5 and ended at 405, storing over a billion gallons and pumping much of the rest out at a rate as high as one million gallons a minute.
The second highest Mississippi flooded in history and two 100 year flash floods in one month. MESD staff did a fantastic job keeping everyone dry.
Yeah I feel as good as I can about a lotta people still in water today, but I'm really proud of my staff.
