It's nice that every now and then there is a case where the presence of a gun has intervened to deescalate a situation.
If gun ownership were just about hunting and protection....I'd be on the band wagon.
I'd be for one rifle one shotgun and one pistol for every able bodied, non-felonious, non-abusing, non mentally-ill citizen if that was all that was needed.... I really would. No limits on BB guns...have as many BB's as you would like!
I understand that the sheriff can't get to some parts of the county within 15 minutes. On the farm, maybe it's time to chase off a rattler or put down a horse.
But the ability to access weapons of war and kill 29 people in one minute?
This is ridiculous.
Also too, for every 'foiled attempt, there are a number of times the 'responsible owner lets down their guard and somehow these guns end up in hands that are suicidal or homicidal. Even the Sandy Hook Massacre was carried out by a young man who found his way into his parent's guns.
Other countries don't have this problem. There's only one area where we stick out...
- Mental illness exists in every country.
-So Do violent video games.
- Many countries do not 'turn to God' and countries with lower religious adherence still seem to have less gun violence.
The one thing they don't have in common....the same ease in obtaining guns and weapons of war.
