With respect to the windshield trim strip. I did not put mine in - It didn't match the "look" I wanted. However, from other owner's stories about it I've gathered that the easiest way to install it is to do it after the seal is on the windshield, but BEFORE you install the whole thing onto the car. This allows you to wiggle the rubber around fairly freely and maintains the overall shape. Having the trim piece installed on the seal shouldn't complicate the string procedure any.
Listen to as much advice as you can from those who've done it. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I feared.
Good luck!

: Maximum stress here guys. I decided to
: take the plunge and install the
: Franken-6's windshield myself with the
: help of a friend. Both of us had heard
: of the string technique, but neither
: one of us had ever seen it performed.
:
: As usual, I blatantly stole from
: others' experiences and it all actually
: worked well. Three things that I
: believe made a difference:
:
: 1. I used 550 paracord. This was a
: very nice size. Easily slipped into
: the seal, was good to grip and it
: didn't slide from side to side until I
: was almost done.
:
: 2. I Used KY Ultra Gel as a lubricant.
: Lots of it. After sinking the
: paracord, I used lots of the KY. It
: stayed moist long enough to get the job
: done, and then just dry up. I liked
: that it dries versus silicone or other
: lube choices and the paracord absorbed
: it making extracting the cord easier.
:
: 3. I crossed the cords completely
: across the bottom of the windshield
: before starting. This held the seal
: open enough to easily drop it onto the
: frames knife-edge and get the whole
: thing started.
:
: Lesson Learned: If after you've put
: the seal around the windshield you
: can't figure out how it goes onto the
: car, you may have put the seal on
: inside-out. (duh)
:
: The CGT marches steadily toward
: completion. I may try to start the
: engine and possibly marry the tub and
: chassis next month. Sorting out all
: the electrical mods has really been
: rough, but they're just about all
: sorted.
:
: Possibly on the road by Summer. What
: an adventure this has been.
:
: Thanks for all your help!
