Actually, not only were the coolant paths open, but so were were the oil journals. I have to assume that some coolant got in the crankcase. But I believe your point was: At least it was wasn't running! You're right - could have been even worse.
I've got one guy who's checking with racing buddies in the area. Might get lucky still.
