The Bentley manual says that when fitting the rear oil seal carrier to the back of the block that a copper washer is used on the top bolt. I don't remember seeing this on the 1500 or either GT6 engine I took apart in the past.
I have plenty of crush washers to use so I will fit a copper washer but I'd like to understand the intent. I assume that the top hole must be tapped through to the inside and is a potential oil leak path that is sealed by the copper washer. Is that correct?
