Don't you realize that 'Gold' can be copied just as easily? (and that it would be more profitable for rip-offs to do so).
The vendor (NAPA in this case) likely would not even be aware that it's bogus.
They are just as much a victim as the customer, maybe even more so, since thay may have thousands of bad parts to worry about, as well as damage to their reputation and 'brand'.

: My local NAPA rep confirmed that the
: 21374 is the "standard"
: filter. Also I don't recall seeing a
: bypass valve in this filter either but
: in this case it was in pretty much
: already in full bypass due to the
: missing spring. The 1374 is the Gold,
: it has a bypass.
: I suppose from now on I'll be giving
: oil filters a little "shake
: test" to make sure all is tight
: inside, this is scary, it could happen
: to anyone...

: Thanks for the additional information.
: I'll stick with "gold".

: The GT6 has a fresh cartridge filter
: but the Spitfire is due for an oil
: change.

: This was a standard NAPA filter, not
: the
: NAPA Gold which is made by Wix.
: Not sure who makes the standard
: filters, but they have a QC control
: problem based on this POS...

: Regardless of counterfeit or real...
: this
: is disappointing. I thought NAPA
: filters were supposed to be made by WIX
: who generally has a good reputation.
:
: Thanks for the heads-up.
