The squirrel died.
I'M GONNA HAVE A FIVE SPEED!
Gentelmen, pass out the cigars.
I brought the "one inch too long" Tri/Toy combo shaft and an extra Triumph input shaft to a machine shop, explained the problem, promised to deliver my first born if fixed, went to church and lit every candle in sight.
Got the call yesterday. The guy was able to fix it! And he said he didn't even need to use the extra Triumph shaft. When I heard that, I knew the rest:
As I feared, the folks that initially attempted to make the combo shaft fouled-up the mating. There was barely any interference contact and the shaft WOULD have come apart almost immediately if installed. The extra modifications of the adapter plate, drive shaft, tunnel cover and rear engine mount would all have been for naught! (whew)
Hopefully I'll get the tranny reassembled and the drivetrain completed on my next vist to the project. Along with that are designing and installing the new exhaust system, long range fuel system and the pick-ups for the (get this) "Cruise Control".
Yes - I have apparently gone mad
Ciao guys! - Jim M

: Well, this is a little in advance of
: "the operation", but I could
: use some advice on how to get the input
: shaft out of the gear box.
:
: I obviously don't have a Churchill
: Tool, but we've all taken these LBCs
: apart without special tools. So I'm
: sure some combination of rubber bands
: and sledge hammers will get the job
: done.
