OK Jim, no jokes about using a drill instead of a pickle... but you might think about doing the holes in a lathe vs drilling. It will be next to impossible to keep your center true with a drill bit.
Also that's some pretty hard steel.

: Hi Mark!
:
: I was just getting ready to write Joe.
: I've decided on using B5BT needles.
: These were on the non-emission
: controlled MK3s. But I'll still have
: some work (of course). I have two CDs
: with fixed needles and one
: CD"S" (?) that has a
: "fixed", but spring loaded
: biased needle. I've never heard of
: that, but it figures that
: "I'D" end up with some
: odd-ball thing to deal with.
:
: Anyway, in order to accommodate the
: later needles I'm going to have to dill
: out the holes in the bottom of the air
: valves (pistons) and "hope" I
: don't spin the steel inserts in the
: aluminum while doing so!
:
: I won't need the adjustable air valves
: because all three carbs have lower
: mixture controls installed (I did have
: to modify one for this, but it looks
: good).
:
: Shouldn't have to worry about the 3
: & 5 cylinders - with the triple
: arrangement, all paths to the intake
: valves are exactly the same length.
: Nice!
:
: I'll pass on your hello.
:
: Ciao! - Jim

: Jim
: I had trouble with needles 20 years ago
: when working up 150CD combos... so I'm
: sure you are having a time! Joe is
: the right guy to work with - BUT I'm
: sure he wishes you went to SU! LOL
: TELL HIM MARK HAAS -from
: "TriumphantReturn" said I
: have a stash of Morris Minor parts !!
: haha
:
: Mark
: P.S. REMEMBER to use 150CD (NOT
: CDSE'S) The center cylinders won't need
: to be fattened up if you don't have a
: log intake. With adjustable needle and
: seats you will have an easier time. IF
: I WAS TURNING TODAY I WOULD PROBABLY
: USE AN o2 and IPhone!

: OK. Who's the Stromberg needle &
: Air
: Valve (piston) wizard out there?
:
: I've been working with Joe Curto for a
: while, trying to outfit the Triple 150s
: and it's been sooo complicated (some of
: that "is" my fault of
: course).
:
: Any "Wizards" out there can
: just email me directly rather than
: subject the crowd to this kind of
: minutia. Or we can just entertain them
: - try and keep the laughter to a dull
: roar. If you know a wizard on another
: board pass that onto me as well.
:
: I know at least one of you is going to
: say, "just go to SUs - they have
: lots of needles available". Nope.
: I'm not building a racer - that level
: of tuning is over kill. I'm just
: building a fun street rod. All I want
: are three matching carburetors that the
: engine (with mods) will run well with.
: And they will be 150s.
:
: Thanks!
:
: Ciao - Jim
