I am now almost positive that the spacer (33311F) called for is the "ring" laying on the floor in one of the photos you took of the original modification. I believe its purpose is to provide positive pressure from the front cover to the outer snap ring of the input bearing. This would lock the input shaft in place between the split cases and the front cover.
Any other theories out there on what 33311F's purpose is, and what we can use in its place?
Hey Dan: I've got some guy (who really is a transmission expert) giving me grief about the use of the conductive sealant between the split cases. I've told him it's for heat transfer, but he's concerned about the metal flakes in the conductive stuff ultimately allowing some leakage. I told him I'd check with you.
So how have the T50s held up leak-wise?
