Join us at our October meeting as we explore two different types of wilderness camping – packrafts and canoes.

Aaron Roby will discuss packrafting, which combines hiking and paddling to access remote waterways. The packraft is an ultralight, inflatable boat paddled with a double-bladed paddle. Though not as efficient on the water as canoe or kayak, the packraft enables new kinds of backcountry exploration where a traditional boat would be impractical. Aaron will highlight the packraft's pros and cons using examples from a recent trip in the upper St. Regis area of the Adirondacks.

Erik Eckilson will discuss more traditional canoe camping, and a recent week-long trip to the Allagash Wilderness Waterway in Maine. The Allagash is a 92.5-mile state park along the Allagash River in the North Maine Woods. It is a beautiful and remote area that is one of the original "Wild and Scenic" rivers.
