Potter Hill Pawcatuck Paddle

The weather looks good for a paddle down the last stretch of the Pawcatuck before it becomes tidal. Meeting at 9:30, shuttle to the take-out in Westerly leaves at 10:00 am. This is a relatively short (5.5 mile) paddle that is mostly flatwater but has several quickwater and moving water sections as well as a couple short stretches that could be considered Class I (straightforward) rapids. You must be confident in controlling where your boat is going in fast-moving water. The trip will pass by the former site of the White Rock Dam, which was removed about 7 years ago to restore flow into the natural river channel for the first time in almost 100 years. We will use caution in this stretch since the river is subject to rapid changes in its new channel here. After the paddle, Cindy and I plan on having a late lunch/early dinner at the Brazen Hen in downtown Westerly. Others are welcome to join. We may also make a stop at Tapped Apple Cidery as well! -Chuck
