See the trip description on the Flatwater Calendar for directions to the put-in on Rte 44 in Putnam, CT.
This is a narrow, twisty stream that is more suitable for shorter boats than long boats. There is likely going to be one portage around a low bridge, and possibly multiple other opportunities to get out and stretch your legs to get around or over blowdowns (I have not been on this river in some time, so I do not know what condition it is in). The river widens out for the second half of the trip as we approach a pond at the dam where we will take out. Be sure to bring snacks, water, maybe a lunch, and maybe a portable hand saw, lol!
The forecast for Sunday is not that great...clouds and showers...but so long as I do not see a forecast for thunderstorms we will still run the trip.
This trip will require a shuttle, but there is not room to park many cars at the take out, so we will likely leave most of the cars at the put-in and shuttle drivers back to their cars once we reach the take-out.
Due to the winding nature of the river, the requirement for a portage, and the limited parking, this trip is limited to 10 participants, so please reply here, or e-mail me at chorbert13@gmail.com if you plan on coming to reserve your spot! -Chuck
