I know some of the RICKA FW folks have paddled this section of the Charles in Medfield. So, to alleviate winter boredom, here's a couple intesting pix of something I saw happen last summer.
Picture on the top was taken late last spring. You find a number of swamp maples along the upper Charles River that have fallen over. But they keep growing. The branches grow straight up from the trunk like a comb. It looks like a bunch of trees growing tightly together in a line.
Second photo is from early September a few months later. It looks like a comb of trees growing sideways out over the river. This is one of the trees in the upper photo. It was on its side, the branches grown up. Then something, probably wind, blew it over such that now, the original trunk is vertical again.
