At 19 my first place was a step-down basement studio, 1 window. Felt like living in a shoe box.

was furnished with antiques, it had no insulation! The pipes froze in winter (thawed them with my hairdryer) and it was very drafty. The tinsel on our Christmas tree would blow in the breeze that came through the cracks in the wall. Oh, and the owner who lived downstairs had to use our bathtub once a week, because his apartment didn't have one. Because the owner was a potato farmer, he said we could have all the potatoes we could eat. Came in handy, because my husband was finishing up his last year at UMass and money was tight

We had the worlds most nosey landlady. She was a menace.
