I guess it intimidates me that there have been so many seasons. Do I need to go back to the 60's, or can I start at the 2000's?

Well, you already know it's science fiction, that
the Dr. battles bad guys to protect the innocent,
travels in the TARDIS with a companion so I'd just
jump into the current series and have fun with it.

If and when you have a little time, you might want
to see how some of the other actors portray the Dr
to see how they inform the character. It's just tv,
enjoy!

Mostly the old ones. A bit with David Tenant, haven't been crazy about it since him.
