...on one of my winter deliveries at Waverly, MO, which had a recently graveled parking lot, |
I got out of my van and saw a partially submerged head. I was curious, so I got something out
to pry it out of the ice and snow-pack. The head took some work to get freed from the ice.
I guess most folks in their right mind would've thrown it out as too beat up and dirty,
but then, 'right mind' is overrated. I don't know why, but I brushed it off and stashed the
head in my trip-bag. The head stayed an all-but-forgotten project for months, if not
even years. What must that head have gone through? Somehow, it was severed from its
original body. It found its way to either a rock quarry to be tossed around with the gravel,
or the rock truck. Then it got dumped on the ground, spread and ground about as the tractor
bladed the gravel smooth. Cars packed it in place as they parked to get their library books.
Then, I found that dirty, cut-up, face-obliterated head peeking up at me through the rock...
"Please save me!"
I think this shot was taken when I finally took her out of storage to put her into the photos.
It was after the preliminary washings and more washing and brushings.
