The marker I used was the Prismacolor Fine Art marker. "Designed for detailed work, Prismacolor Premier Double-Ended Art Markers feature an advanced dye-based alcohol ink formulation that ensures rich color saturation and coverage, and smooth, silky ink flow."(Dick Blick description) I wouldn't use them on a $200 dollar doll, but can be used for lots of applications---they are transparent and the fine tips are great for tiny touch ups also. There are multiple products out there from Prismacolor. Make sure they are the alcohol based markers. Individual markers sell for 5.99-$6.99 each, they are professional illustrator markers. NOTE: do not use any hair products on marked hair as--most contain alcohol. This is what I tried on three dolls and have had no bleeding or transfer to clothing--but do this at your own risk. I also did yellow on Grandmother's gray hair to give her a fresher look.
