I looked into that for Barbie & Liv (2 different size piercings). I made earrings using Funwire. The 'silver' is more like grey & the 'gold' is more like bronze. It's PVC-coated so it's the same material as the doll head. The wire looks like that wire that they use on some doll packaging - not very pretty but safe. There is also craft wire - Artistic Wire & Parawire that's nylon coated but I was afraid there might be a nick in the wire that I can't see. Being that people-size post earrings are too small for my dolls there's a chance that people-size post covers will fit a doll head.
Once I did a difficult maneuver - I threaded string in one ear & out the other & made loops for attaching earrings.
Doll companies are missing out on creating something for thier sizes.
