Things are still pretty messy in my little bit of the world. Cousin funeral on the 19th We can't go in as we are shielding so will watch from the car!!!! I think it will be posted live??? My other cousin Clare will be starting six weeks of radiotherapy this week after finishing cemo a couple of weeks ago. We can still only communicate over the net or phone and I so need to give her a hug! My best friend lost her grandad just after Christmas and is going through a bad break up so I can't call on her for support (plus, I can't see her either!) Other than that it now three weeks since our first jab so hoping for the second one soon.
And then there is my lovely dad. He has Ataxia and the start of dementia, not bad but noticeable. He was 90 just before Christmas and the ataxia has made him very wobbly on his legs. I have given him a walking stick and a funky frame with a seat but he won't use the frame and only the stick when he wants too. On Saturday they can to me for the day (I help with his care so we are allowed to see each other) They left about 8pm for the very short drive round the corner to their home. When dad got out of the front seat of the car he went to the back door of the car to get his walking stick (because we all know a walking stick needs it's own seat) and he fell! He falls over a lot but mostly he is fine. I'm for ever saying 'keep you stick with you' but dad does as dad does! So he fell to his knees and then on to his face. OMG did he make a mess of his face. Mum phoned me and we dashed round and phoned for an ambulance. Dad take Warfarin for his heart and this thins the blood...boy there was a lot of blood. Ambulance came and his blood pressure was in his boots. So to hospital he went. Unfortunately not a good place as when he went here last time try left him to die (now that a whole other story) anyway ambulance only go to this hospital and because of dads bp being so low he needed to go in by ambulance. No one could go with him because of this poxy Covid! So he had to go on his own frightened, death and not always understanding what's going on!
He phoned mum in the morning for us to come and collect him, so off we went. At the hospital they allowed us both to come in. A and E was empty! OK, so a Sunday morning but just doctors and nurses standing around chatting. Dad was in an anti ward off to the side of the main A and E I guess so they don't go over thing 4 hour thing (they get in trouble if a patent is in the A and E for more than 4 hours) So dad in the second bed along. First bed had the only other patient an older lady who shrieked and yelled all the time! The physio was there and said they had not been told dad was being released? Anyway they told us he could go after a couple of tests and we are now the proud owners of two walking frames! Dad was much happier once home and we were told that a district nurse would come on Monday to clean dad's face.
This morning (Monday) dad's face had weeped and where he was laying down blood was all over his forehead and in his hair. I phoned our GP to find out about a nurse AND the hospital had not sent dad's discharge details through??? Why? It's not like they had anything to do??? The place was empty! So now mum has got to take dad to the GP surgery and have him cleaned up. We would try and do it ourselves but with all the cuts I think it would 'messy' and he would end up back in hospital! Not sure why they did not give him stitches?
