Last year when Brian and I watched the movie Coco, we fell in love with the idea and beauty of Dia de los Muertos ofrendas. If you know my husband, you know that Brian wants to build anything he sees for the challenge of it, so he built an ofrenda room. Before you scream "cultural appropriation!" (heard a lot when Mattel came out with a Dia de Muertos Barbie), please consider cultural appreciation.
If you've seen ofrendras you know that we are missing a very important part of it: tons and tons of marigolds. Yes, that bothers me big time, that in a year of searching I have not found anything that can function as mini marigold flowers. I have now found an Etsy seller that may be able help me out, but she is overseas and nothing can be here before December, so we'll aim for having that done next year. In the mean time I made the table cloth as orange as I could, and I got silly pompoms (I may throw around more). I'll be adding some more food and drinks as I go through my mini's too.
The dolls are Monster High Skelita's. Some of my friends may recognize their family members in the pictures. I hand-cut the papel picado and Brian made the table and wood frames in addition to the casita.
