f you’ve been following Barbie Signature for long enough, you might remember the “Palm Beach” series of dolls that formed the 2010 releases for the Barbie Fashion Model Collection (BFMC). They included Breeze Barbie Doll, Coral Barbie Doll, Honey Barbie Doll, and Swim Suit Barbie Doll.
But did you know that there was a fifth doll planned for the collection – one that never saw the light of day? It’s true, and if you’ve seen Barbie The Movie, you’ve already met him. He’s Sugar’s Daddy Ken Doll, and we’re beyond thrilled to tell you that he’s arriving on October 12 at 9 AM PT at Mattel Creations. This Black Label doll will retail for $50.00, and he’s exclusively available to Barbie Signature members.
Robert Best designed all the dolls in the BFMC, and he describes his reaction to the live-action version as “shock and awe.” Under the circumstances, we don’t blame him: “I was lucky enough to visit the set in London when they were filming,” he reports, “and the first sign that this was really happening was when I saw the printed fabric for his blazer, in full life-size scale. I was somewhat overwhelmed. It’s all kind of ‘Pinch me, I must be dreaming’ stuff.”
This almost-forgotten doll comes with “Sugar,” the puppy pal Robert envisioned to be a friend to “Miss Honey.” She’s the Yorkshire Terrier who accompanies Palm Beach Honey Barbie Doll from the concrete jungle of New York to the pastel-soaked playground of South Florida. That Barbie doll was also a member exclusive when she was released, and soon you’ll have the opportunity to get Ken and Sugar to go with them.
Mark your calendars and set your reminders for this one. He missed his chance in 2010, so don’t miss your own chance on October 12 at 9 AM PT to get Sugar’s Daddy Ken Doll for your collection.
