Randall designed all types of clothing but these 4 fashions showcase a couple of things I think of as quintessential Randall Craig. Namely the sexy plunging neckline that you would never have seen sold on a Mattel Barbie at that time, and the sweaters. Randall really knew how to work the knits! You have to remember that the RTW line appeared back when there were no Etsy or similar sites, and almost no designers selling doll clothes on their own websites. So it was very exciting to be able to buy gorgeous deluxe fashions that weren't made by Mattel or other 1/6 doll companies. The promo pictures for these first 4 fashions were shown on the earliest Fashion Royalty dolls who had a body like the Candi doll, and also similar to the vintage Barbie body. So I've put them on dolls with this similar body type. Riviera, 150 pieces (retail price $29.99)- A gorgeous deep wine top paired with a black sheath skirt and an abstract print scarf. There is a black rosette at the left shoulder, and jewelry was included. None of these 4 fashions included shoes so those have been borrowed from other dolls. Close-up of the earrings which were not shown on the doll but were included: Polka Dots 'N Pearls, 150 pieces (retail price $29.99)- The first of many knit cardigan/shell sets tops this cute day ensemble with it's adorable polka dot A-line skirt. A lady purse and jewelry completed the fashion. These sweaters have working buttonholes! Close-up of the sleeveless shell underneath: The jewelry and purse: Sweater Chic, 150 pieces (retail price $29.99)- Another wonderful sweater set in a lovely shade of lavender, paired with a cream skirt and belt, plus jewelry. The pearl studs are the doll's own, though, and the fashion actually came with simple gold hoop earrings. It was difficult to fasten the buttons with my clumsy fingers but I managed the bottom one! Glamour, 150 pieces (retail price unknown but one source says $39.99)- This stunning deep royal purple satin gown is actually 2 pieces, a halter top and the mermaid skirt. The chain belt and jewelry were also included. I know the sweater pieces will fit a multitude of 1/6-scale dolls due to their stretchiness but I had a curiosity about how the more form-fitting fashions might fit the current FR body. I was actually surprised at how well it fit, although the keyhole bodice looks different due to the less prominent bust of the current FR body, plus the skirt is a bit short as the FR dolls are very statuesque, and it was a tight fit getting the skirt over the hips because the early FR bodies were very slim-hipped. The packaging for these fashions was a simple clear plastic square box with the fashion pinned to a neutral cardboard insert, but there was a small COA (certificate of authenticity) secured to the back of the box. Here are the cards for these 4 fashions (they are business card sized). Still can't believe all these fashions are now 20 years old! Next week we'll start looking at the RTW offerings from 2004.
