Re: Races for September 27
Joe, we're talking once a month, 12 months in the year. You need to get a few guys together and hit a few and get a feel for how it all works or actually more how and why it doesn't work. The Pre Sanction meeting is coming up where the way it's supposed to work is all racing, MX flat track etc are supposed to pick their dates and adjust so they are not on top of each other. Everybody seems to have no problem with this except MX. After the first meeting it goes a couple weeks and then any adjustments they want to make are done at the final meeting. This worked for years. Why doesn't it work now? They, MX promoters, do not follow this simple process. The majority of them do not post their race dates. It's some kind of mind game they play with each other which we've seen doesn't work so well the last few years. It's been mentioned they are greedy, all but two are business's. They want and need to make money to continue. The problem is their big ego's are making it impossible to work together. Their competitiveness has brought us some great events this year and track prep has gotten better. Why? They are now competing to offer the better track. Thats a good thing as long as they are not on top of each other. My feeling all along is each track hold less races but make them a special event! Entertainment, food, anything to make it special. What would make more sense, 12 races a year with 2 to 300 riders or 4 or 5 races pulling 5 or 600 riders, maybe more at each event. The costs of flaggers, ambulance, diesel are the same with 100 or 500 riders. The theory runs in line with "It's not what you sell it for, it's what you buy it for". That equates into the more riders you have at 1 event, the lower your cost per rider therefore more profit. My 2 cents.
