Historically, HP printers have always tended to play well with Chromebooks, though perhaps not every HP printer is compatible. Also, historically, Canon printers have tended NOT to play well with Chromebooks, but that may have changed since I researched the printer issue years ago.
If it were me, I would look for a compatible HP printer. HP also has their "Instant Ink" program, which can save you a lot of money on ink. I have saved a fortune on ink cartridges since I joined it, and HP mails me super-sized cartridges when I get low on ink (the printer alerts them when I'm low).
