Kitchen cupboards are thick and loaded with stuff so yes that would prevent the signal from getting to your bedroom. Most of my friends with houses use the wifi extender because they only have a good signal in a couple of rooms.

Why don't you move the router so that its half way between the two rooms or like I stated, get a wifi extender.
