Try using the mouse and make your cursor blink at the end of the typo or where you want to erase & use the left arrow key to fix AND THEN brace yourself and use backspace!!!!!

ANOTHER WAY is, especially if you are working on something long is to Ctrl-a then Ctrl-x which deletes everything and then start over by hitting Ctrl-v & BY THEN you ought to have all you typos in your head to be able Git 'Er DUN And be able to stay away from that pesky backspace button as much as possible!!!!!!!

I'm also thinking of cutting up an old credit card that would just cover the louder sound, power, the plus minus key, the backspace key and the 2 1/2 buttons below that using a bit of masking or electrical tape like a hinge........

Keeping it simple just COPY (ctrl) A LOT!!!!!
