Message from the Chair RE Corona

Hi All, |
You can have a pop at me for this or not. Iím used to it now anyway.
Brid is absolutely right in his comments below. Given the increase in incidents over this weekend (and even before this),we need to be ahead of the government advice (given that they are about 2-3 weeks behind the rest of the world that means weíre still behind the virus). Thatís not a political opinion, by the way, itís a medical and statistical opinion, which also happens to concur with WHO and the French leadership. It is expected that the BMC will announce no climbing very soon, and I believe all crags in Spain and France have been closed for weeks.
So as the Chair and therefore sitting on the senior committee I recommend that all outdoor / indoor climbing be curtailed for the foreseeable future.
We should not meet at peoples houses. It can be carried for weeks and we have many vulnerable people in the club. Even if you are not vulnerable, you probably have parents / elderly neighbours who are.
Climbing involves touching hand holds which have just been touched by someone else, touching gear which has just been placed minutes before by someone else.
The numbers of cases in our region almost doubled over the weekend. As we know there have been cases in Buxton and also in Hope.
I will share any info from the BMC as it comes in.
